On Saturday, December 9, 2023, Transcorp Power Plc. held the Graduation and Induction Ceremony for its Vocational Skills Training and Entrepreneur Empowerment Program at Ughelli, Delta State, to celebrate the conferment of awards for outgoing trainees, and to induct a new batch of trainees.
The event was a great success and marked an exciting milestone for Transcorp Power as we saw the 9th and 10th batch of graduates and the 11th batch of inductees in the skills program. The Company’s dedication to empowering women and the youth with entrepreneurial skills and improving the quality of life in the community in which it operates, has led to over 200 indigenes of the community completing the skills training program so far.
Mr. Peter Ikenga, MD/CEO of Transcorp Power Plc. stated that the annual empowerment program for the three host communities began six years ago. In addition to their acquired vocational trade and entrepreneurial skills, each graduate received a capital grant to kick start and support their journey to starting and growing their businesses.
He thanked the three Royal fathers HRM, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III, Ovie of Ughelli kingdom, HRM, Dr. Matthew Edirin Egbi, Owawha II, Okabaro of Ughievwen Kingdom and HRM, Samson Owhe Ogugu, Osuivie of Agbarho Kingdom whose domains are part of the host communities.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Delta State Commissioner for Power and Energy Mr. Jerry Ehiwario who represented the State Governor Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori at the ceremony commended the efforts of Transcorp in touching the lives of the people of its host communities.
Oborevwori therefore charged multi-national operating in the State to take its social responsibility functions seriously which said would create jobs, curb youth restiveness and other social vises in their areas of operations.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were a few trainees from previous batches who served as an inspiration to what is achievable with commitment and conviction.
